Photos Before and After Restoration

Original Slide Restored Version

Okay, I admit to being a bit partial on this one, but I've got a story to tell here.  Nearly twenty years ago I shot this slide of a few-minutes-old baby daughter, Bonnie.  Every once in a while I'd pull it out and agonize over it a bit—if only it hadn't been at the beginning of the roll—if only the developer hadn't stuck his label over it —if only it had been a bit lighter.

Well, I'm the proud daddy in this story—proud that the baby has grown up—proud that she takes such an interest in my photo preservation work—proud that she is taking it to the next level.  Bonnie, I am proud of your work in restoring this photograph!

This is a simple, easy example that demonstrates the difference that restoration and touchup can have on a photo. This photo probably took 3 minutes to touchup. Fixing the "levels" in Adobe Photoshop changed this photo from looking blury and old to looking sharp and clear. A lot of small touchup was also put into this photo to get rid of the dust and scratches. Some of these changes may be hard to see at this resolution, but when blown up bigger, the difference is evident.
